Guardsman - Denied Claim

We purchased a reclining Ashley couch with a power reclining module. The store we purchased the couch from included a free Guardsman Furniture Care Warranty.

I have the store receipt and the original copy of the Guardsman warranty that was issued. A year after we purchased, one of the controllers that operates the comfort features failed. Unfortunately, the store went out of business, but that has no bearing on the warranty. Needless to say, after many calls and emails, Guardsman refused to cover our issue.

In fact, this is the email response from Guardsman... 'Good afternoon, we apologize for the frustration; however, it is clearly stated within the plan that when your retailer closes, we will offer a refund for the listed price of the plan. Since your invoice does not show a price paid for the plan, we are unable to refund you for the plan. We understand the frustration; however, we are unable to expedite the process.

Our retailer relations team is attempting to reach out to your retailer to confirm closure or if they are able to order the parts needed. However, as previously stated, if your retailer has closed, we will be unable to repair or replace the furniture. Gabriel Resolution Account Specialist.

So you might as well wipe your floor with a Guardsman warranty. A shady company at best.

Loss:
$600
Cons:
  • Disappointing
  • Predatory
  • Not customer-driven

Preferred solution: Return the cost of the warranty the store paid so I can put it towards fixing the couch, or fix the couch!

Why on earth would you get refunded the warranty cost the store paid?

Schindo
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2750030

Because I hold the contract for the Guardsman warranty. Guardsman themselves offered a refund option at one point during the dispute.

This isn’t about what the store paid — it’s about a warranty that was issued in my name and still in effect.

Think of it like buying a car that’s still under manufacturer warranty. If the dealer closes, the manufacturer doesn’t get to walk away from covering defects.

  • - Claim denied because wear is not covered.
  • - I explained the damage came from a wet dog on leather, but amendments after submission are not allowed.

Told that claim was denied because wear not covered. When I called to explain that it wasn't really wear but due to wet dog damaging leather, I was told they do not allow you to amend your claim after submitting complaint. Because in my rush to submit the claim, I had said wear instead of a detailed description of incident no further information is allowed to be submitted after I clicked submit.

Misleading Protection Plan and Poor Claim Handlin

Guardsman - Misleading Protection Plan and Poor Claim Handlin - Image 5

I purchased a Guardsman Protection Plan under the impressionbased on the brochure and sales materials providedthat it would cover common fabric issues such as cuts, punctures, tears, and shredding. When my outdoor furniture began to fray and shred, I filed a claim expecting coverage.

Not only was my claim denied, but Guardsmans explanation lacked transparency and referenced vague policy language that I was never provided at the time of purchase.

The only document I received was a promotional brochure that strongly implied this type of damage would be covered.

When I asked for clarification, I received a canned response referencing exclusions under section 7 of a plan Ive never seen. No full policy document was offered upfront, and there was no effort to provide a clear explanation or a way to appeal the decision.

This feels like a bait-and-switch. Consumers deserve to know what theyre actually buyingnot be handed vague documents and then denied coverage for the very issues they were told would be protected.

I do not recommend purchasing a Guardsman protection plan unless you are provided the full legal policy up front and review every line of fine print. This experience has been frustrating, misleading, and a complete waste of time.Misleading Protection Plan and Poor Claim Handling

Sofa repair- total failure

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - DFS sofa insurance, but this repair was a disaster.
  • - At home repairs used improper equipment and damaged the upholstery and poorly padded cushions.

I have sofa insurance with DFS, but this option is a complete disaster. When they try to repair the seat cushions, they completely destroy my sofa.

They want to do all the work at my home without the proper equipment or specialists.

The previous repair attempt damaged the underside of the upholstery and distorted the seat cushions. The seat cushions were poorly padded, and the sofa's comfort has gone from being comfortable to being like a board.

Very disrespectful

Original review Jul 29, 2025
Various Complains on getting my claims submitted. It's a long tedious process to submit a claim and then it takes months for them to respond and then I get responses from them.

Complaint on a customer service representative on an issue with a recent call. The customer service representative was very unprofessional and stated my claim was denied for a replacement part for my sectional. She emphasized there is nothing they could do to assist me with it.

I requested to request an overturned, she stated it could not be done and there is nothing I could do to make any changes. I am extremely dissatisfied with the services you are providing me and I hope this issue gets resolved.

Frustrated and angry that I paid for this warranty and turned in one claim and it is being denied because they said I didnt put the claim in the thirty days. I called two days to report the issue and made the claim.

Ive made several calls trying to find out the status of my claim.

No one answers the phone or returns calls. I will be filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau.

Claims process is a SCAM

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Spent thousands on furniture and Guardsman protection; coverage was denied and I must start over after hours collecting proof.

Spent thousands of dollars on furniture and added the Guardsman protection which Northeast Ohio Factory Direct claim will cover everything. Its an absolute waste of money as the item will clearly show as covered in the protection plan however Guardsman just send an email stating denied.

Save your money and do not purchase the Guardsman protection plan as its all based on the fact that you will never use it.

ALSO- Tell the salesman who is pushing to buy the "Guaranteed protection for stains, rips, tears, etc" that he is full of crap! Now that I have spent probably 4 hours collecting all the pics, files, follow up emails, I get to start over and find new furniture!

User's recommendation: DO NOT BUY GUARDSMAN/ DO NOT LISTEN TO THE SALESMAN

They don’t do what they say they are going to do!!

AI Highlights
  • - They claimed we moved or had storage, which is not true.
  • - We were given contact numbers but kept on hold; avoid Guardsman protection plans.

We have been going round and round with these people for a month. They tried to say they couldnt clean our furniture bc we moved or had it in storage.

No we did not move. Its been sitting in the same house same spot for almost five years. Its just one excuse after another. We have been giving every number to contact them and then you get put on hold for so long you have to hang up and call back and try to start all over again.

Do not let any furniture company try to sell you a guardsman protection plan. These people will not help you in any way possible.

Sofa seam repair

  • - The seam tear is a stress tear and not covered.

They determined it's a stress tear on the seem and therefore not covered. Ironically, the only ones that really sit on the sofa is the two 50lb dogs!

Can you imagine the stress tear if grown people regularly sat in it for the last 18 months? So, don't waste the money, you may as well save it for your next set of furniture.
