We purchased a reclining Ashley couch with a power reclining module. The store we purchased the couch from included a free Guardsman Furniture Care Warranty.

I have the store receipt and the original copy of the Guardsman warranty that was issued. A year after we purchased, one of the controllers that operates the comfort features failed. Unfortunately, the store went out of business, but that has no bearing on the warranty. Needless to say, after many calls and emails, Guardsman refused to cover our issue.

In fact, this is the email response from Guardsman... 'Good afternoon, we apologize for the frustration; however, it is clearly stated within the plan that when your retailer closes, we will offer a refund for the listed price of the plan. Since your invoice does not show a price paid for the plan, we are unable to refund you for the plan. We understand the frustration; however, we are unable to expedite the process.

Our retailer relations team is attempting to reach out to your retailer to confirm closure or if they are able to order the parts needed. However, as previously stated, if your retailer has closed, we will be unable to repair or replace the furniture. Gabriel Resolution Account Specialist.

So you might as well wipe your floor with a Guardsman warranty. A shady company at best.

Monetary Loss: $600.

Preferred solution: Return the cost of the warranty the store paid so I can put it towards fixing the couch, or fix the couch!.

Guardsman Cons: Disappointing, Profit-driven, Not customer-driven, Predatory.

Location: Atlanta, Georgia

Why on earth would you get refunded the warranty cost the store paid?

Because I hold the contract for the Guardsman warranty. Guardsman themselves offered a refund option at one point during the dispute.

This isn’t about what the store paid — it’s about a warranty that was issued in my name and still in effect.

Think of it like buying a car that’s still under manufacturer warranty. If the dealer closes, the manufacturer doesn’t get to walk away from covering defects.
